5 Super-Cool Facts About Invisalign Teen You Didn't Know

Clear aligners, which make straightening your teeth easier and prettier than traditional braces, aren’t new. They’ve been around for about 20 years and have straightened the teeth of millions of adults. But the take-in/take-out aligners weren’t always the best choice for teens, who aren’t known for their cooperation and compliance abilities.

Until now. Dr. Willis and our team at Smashing Smiles Orthodontics can help teens improve their smiles discreetly and comfortably with Invisalign Teen®, a clear aligner made especially for adolescents. Here are some facts about these new aligners you probably didn’t know.

1. Invisalign Teen has compliance technology

No clear aligner will straighten teeth unless your teen wears them. And we all know that teens can be forgetful and oppositional. That’s why traditional braces that are cemented onto the teeth have been the standard of care for teenagers.

Invisalign Teen, however, has a built-in “compliance indicator” -- a tiny, colored dot on each tray that fades the more they’re worn, a recommended 22 hours a day. These dots tell Dr. Willis if your teen is wearing the trays as prescribed.

2. Invisalign Teen leaves space for future teeth

Invisalign Teen trays also come with “eruption tabs” that reserve space for permanent teeth that are missing in action at the beginning of treatment but may erupt during the roughly 13 months it takes to fix a bite or straighten teeth.

3. Invisalign is tough on teeth but easy on the mouth

Unlike traditional braces, which are made of metal and cement that can injure delicate mouth tissue, Invisalign is made of a unique composite material that is soft, flexible, and easy on the mouth.

The aligners -- which your teen can remove to eat, floss, or just look fabulous for a special event -- are computer manufactured to move teeth bit by bit throughout treatment. Every two weeks, your teen will receive new aligners that gently nudge teeth into their optimal position.

4. Invisalign Teen fits most orthodontic needs

  1. Truly complicated and difficult orthodontic cases will probably require traditional braces, which Dr. Willis can fit, too. But Invisalign can treat these common bite and crooked teeth problems:

5. These celebrities wore Invisalign

Loads of celebrities reportedly told various news outlets that they’ve used Invisalign to straighten their teeth. They include:
