Tips for Taking Care of Your Invisalign® Trays

Congratulations! Dr. Allena Willis Kennerly and Invisalign® are transforming your smile into a stunner. But now that you have the trays, it’s important to take care of them. Here are some tips on how to keep your aligners in tip-top condition.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear alignment system that corrects common bite problems without the use of abrasive and ugly wire-and-metal braces. Every two weeks, you’ll change your custom-designed, graduated aligners that will gently nudge your teeth into perfect alignment. Every 6-8 weeks, you’ll also visit Dr. Willis, who will check your progress and give you the next batch of aligners.

Invisalign can correct overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites, gapped teeth, crooked teeth, crowded teeth, and less-than-ideal teeth.

Invisalign aligners are made from a thermoplastic material that is light and comfortable. But the plastic is vulnerable to mistreatment and misuse. That’s why you must take good care of your Invisalign trays.

Before you insert the trays

Be sure to wash your hands with soap and water before handling an Invisalign tray. Then, brush the trays using a soft toothbrush and toothpaste. Never use a denture cleaner or mouthwash to clean aligners.

Inserting/removing the trays

Never bite your Invisaligns into place.

Use your fingers to gently insert the top aligner over your front teeth, then apply a little pressure on your molars until they snap into place. Repeat with the bottom aligner.

Wearing the Invisalign trays

Remember, your teeth won’t move if you don’t wear your Invisalign trays. That’s why it’s vital to wear the trays 20-22 hours a day.

Remove aligners whenever you eat or drink anything other than cool water. After eating, clean your aligners by running them under cool water or brushing them. Before going out to eat, stow a portable toothbrush and mini-tube of toothpaste in your bag or backpack.
